Now, in terms of plot, I’d like to note how unconventional this match is presented to the readers. Who are their previous owners? Will they contribute solidly to the plot (and what is the plot)? I’d also like to consider: which among these 5 abilities will be the finishing blow? That leaves (3) Order Stamp and (5) Convert Hands. So what happens to the Phantom Troupe? Did they disband? If so, that means Chrollo himself is no longer a Spider, and Kurapika’s nen ability will be completely useless (this, taking into account the possibility that he still wants to have his revenge on a non-Spider Chrollo)? The way Chrollo puts it points that he gets the Meteor City elder’s ability back there, hence the flashback panels. Now, which of these are acquired during the time Chrollo spends evading Hisoka, and does it really matter? We know for sure that Black Voice and Gallery Fake are obtained somewhere between Chimera Ants and now. Next let’s consider the second statement: if it is true that Chrollo chooses to fight now because he has everything he needs in order to win, which abilities are the new additions? So the ‘new record’ of abilities that Chrollo uses to kill Hisoka includes: (1) Shal’s Black Voice, (2) the elder’s Sun and Moon, (3) Somebody’s Order Stamp, (4) Koltopi’s Gallery Fake, and (5) Somebody’s Convert Hands. Qed, yes, it is possible that Hisoka might die here the sacrifice is just too big to wrap my mind around. I mean, I can’t see Hisoka going to the Dark Continent and kicking ass anyway the motif is just not there. But who knows, he might decide to just kill off Hisoka, sacrificing the Hisoka-Gon fight altogether. These two fights are the only things Togashi owes us for the rest of the manga. True, Hisoka is aiming to fight Gon some time in the future, but his goal is also to fight Chrollo. But if Togashi is going on a killing spree to clear out any character that does not contribute to the plot anymore, now is the perfect time.

But plot-wise, is it really possible? The first time I read this chapter, I am of the impression that Hisoka cannot die.

So yeah, Chrollo could probably be killing Hisoka to get rid of him.

Maybe it is time Chrollo decides to steal Hisoka’s nen ability, but this is unlikely, because Chrollo’s perfectly serious about killing Hisoka, and if he does steal from Hisoka, it means he’s going to have to let Hisoka live - since Hisoka is not really the type of person whose nen gets stronger after death in my opinion, as he does not seem to have vengeance or agenda, unlike Kurapika and the Meteor City Elder.

The first statement could be true or fault. As we all know, Hisoka has been pinning for Chrollo since the end of the last century (the chapter where this is mentioned was published around 1999), so the question we should ask is not ‘why is Hisoka fighting Chrollo?’ but rather ‘why is Chrollo fighting Hisoka?’ I will be referring to Mangastream’s translation.Ĭhrollo himself admits that he agrees to this fight because he already has enough of Hisoka chasing him, while Hisoka also supplies that Chrollo has been evading him forever and decides to fight now of all time because Chrollo has finally reaped enough abilities. The last we heard, Chrollo was still looking for a nen exorcist: a mission that he had apparently completed as he is now back in top form. Chapter 351 of Hunter x Hunter makes a clear break away from the previous one, where the readers see Kurapika and his new gang preparing to take on a new mission.
